One of several terms used to describe training course design, flexible and/or open learning development, writing and editing. First coined as a job title to describe my involvement in the European Union 'Enterprise' course for Eastern Europe (1991-4), it is increasingly relevant in these days of web-based learning. The POLSYS Project - as originally codenamed - led both to the establishment of the new Polish Open University, and, at a more modest level, to the emergence of Wordwebs itself, as an offshoot of the Thames Valley University Freelance Network.
